As residents and neighbors, we all want to keep our neighborhood looking its best. Consistent and reasonable application of the covenants is essential to achieve this goal. We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of some of the most common challenges or misunderstandings that we encounter. It takes the efforts of every resident to maintain a wonderful community, and we thank you for doing your part!
- Landscaping – Taking care of our yards is one of the most important things we can do to make the community attractive. Lawns should be mowed regularly, treated for weeds and weeds removed from shrubbery beds, with mulch or pine straw applied. Shrubbery should also be trimmed to a manageable level regularly. Please note – intentional placement of lawn clippings, leaves, debris, etc. into the street or the drainage ditches is a violation of our covenants and will be treated as such.
- Mailboxes – Please make sure your mailbox is in good condition, not faded or rusty, and has the correct number font. This is an inexpensive and easy task that will make a huge difference. All mailboxes must be black in color and match the standard design. If your mailbox is in need of repair, or needs new numbers, you may contact Alabama Mailbox at 205-594-4413. Simply tell them you are a resident of Brook Highland, and they will be able to provide what you need, including complete installation if necessary.
- Toys, trailers, lawn equipment, etc. – As a general rule, most items need to be stored out of sight, or behind a fence, when not in use. This includes toys, bikes, boats, trailers, trampolines, lawn equipment, grills, etc. If you have a question about a specific item, please contact our office.
- Garbage Cans – Garbage cans are to be stored where they are not visible from the street. Cans should also be removed from the street at the end of the day of collection.
- Pets – Please make sure that pets are on leashes at all times when outside the home or fenced back yard. At no time should pets be let out unattended to roam the neighborhood and use the bathroom. Pet waste should also be cleaned up immediately after your pet and removed.
- Signs – Please do not affix any sign to trees or street signs. Not only is this unsightly, but it also damages the tree or paint on the signs.
- Parking – Please refrain from parking on the street except for visitors or short-term duration.
- Obey Traffic Laws – Please drive safely and obey all speed and stop signs in the neighborhood. Please be aware of potential pedestrians, children, pets or wildlife. Violations may be reported to Shelby County Sheriffs office for increased monitoring.
- Home Repairs – Please keep your home well maintained. Any exterior repairs to the home, including pressure washing or painting, should be done on a routine basis. Driveways should also be pressure washed as needed.
- Exterior Modifications – Please keep in mind that any modifications to the exterior of your home, yard or fence need to be submitted to the Architectural Review Committee for approval. These modifications include, but are not limited to, exterior paint, fences, major landscape renovations, etc. You can submit a request for review at ARCTracker.

Another item that should have been included in the section on mailboxes is that the correct font for the mailbox numbers is available from Custom Sign Express at (205) 942-7446. It has become an eyesore with all the various incorrect number fonts on the mailboxes.
Thanks for pointing this out. This information is also on the FAQ https://brookhighland.org/faq/
Thank you for pointing these out. These certainly will help maintain our property value.
